Outline of CODA

The Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) is a private organization composed of Japanese content providers and copyright-related organizations (22 companies and 20 organizations as of March 2007), whose aim is to stamp out piracy and promote the legal distribution of Japanese content, in particular in Asia. CODA established the CJ Mark in March 2005 to give content providers a way forward in protecting their intellectual property.

Activities of CODA

  • Promote CJ Mark (details described below)
  • Study overseas copyright law systems
  • Hold regular meetings with Chinese governmental organization
  • Promote awareness (about piracy) through consumer education programs
  • Conduct research activities
  • Support industrial collaboration between the US, Europe and Japan
CJ Mark Project

The CJ Mark is a trademark that helps protect the copyright of Japanese content, such as film, music, animation, TV programs, video games, books and toys. The trademark, which is being registered in countries where these products are officially distributed, is affixed to the products of CODA members. In the months and years to come, CODA will promote the CJ Mark’s widespread adoption throughout the Japanese content industry.
